Charlie Puth brings Art Garfunkel, Jimmy Fallon and Busta Rhymes to Madison Square Garden
Charlie Puth turned his MSG headline show into a parade of surprise guests, including Art Garfunkel, Jimmy Fallon, Busta Rhymes and Kirk Franklin.

Charlie Puth surprise guests at Madison Square Garden made for a night to remember
Charlie Puth headlined Madison Square Garden on May 29 as part of his Whatever's Clever World Tour, and he did not show up alone. According to Billboard, the New York City show included four major surprise guests across a 23-song set, turning what could have been a straightforward pop concert into something closer to a variety event with genuine emotional weight.
Art Garfunkel opens the surprises
The first guest set the bar high. Art Garfunkel joined Puth on stage for a duet on Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer," a Hot 100 top 10 hit from 1969 and a track from the duo's final studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Water. Garfunkel addressed the crowd directly: "He learned how to make his records from me and Paul. You're my student." Puth accepted the title without hesitation, crediting the duo's songwriting as the reason he is performing at all.
The moment landed because it felt earned, not staged. Two generations of pop craft, one song.
Fallon, Busta and Franklin keep the energy climbing
Midway through the set, Jimmy Fallon walked out in sunglasses to perform Toto's "Africa," which reached number one on the charts in 1983. Fallon also presented Puth with a custom New York Rangers jersey bearing "PUTH" and the number 26.
Busta Rhymes followed, running through a short set of his own catalogue: "Break Ya Neck," "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See," and "Look at Me Now," the 2011 Chris Brown single he appeared on alongside Lil Wayne. He closed his segment by leading the arena in a cheer for the host.
Kirk Franklin rounded out the guests with performances of his own "I Smile" and "Lean On Me," plus a cover of God's Property's "Stomp."
What comes next
The Whatever's Clever World Tour continues with a date in Atlantic City, New Jersey on May 30, before moving south through the United States into mid-June and then heading to Europe for a second leg.
