Natasha Bedingfield's 'Unwritten' gets a kids' cover for Little Angel spin-off 'Emmie's Wonder Wardrobe'
The 2004 pop classic gets a mermaid makeover in the first-ever cover song from Moonbug Entertainment's new preschool series.

Twenty years and still going
Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" keeps finding new audiences. The song released in 2004 became a cultural touchstone as the theme for MTV's The Hills starting in 2006, resurfaced in the 2023 rom-com Anyone But You, and now lands in an unlikely new context: a children's animated series. According to Billboard, the track has been covered for Emmie's Wonder Wardrobe, a Little Angel spin-off from Moonbug Entertainment, marking the first cover song in the show's run.
Mermaids in the rain
The episode leans into the song's most iconic lyric. Emmie and her friends dress up as mermaids and ride scooters through muddy puddles in the rain, pairing the visuals directly with Bedingfield's line: "Feel the rain on your skin / No one else can feel it for you / Only you can let it in." The concept is simple and it works.
Lola Reynoso, music director for the series, told Billboard Family that the choice was deliberate. "'Unwritten' is a timeless pop song that as soon as you hear it you want to sing it at the top of your lungs," she said. "Its message of self-discovery and embracing who you are is at the heart of the series."
A strategic fit for Moonbug
Emmie's Wonder Wardrobe, which premiered last month, follows Baby John's pink-haired big sister Emmie. The show is produced by Moonbug Entertainment, the studio behind CoComelon and Blippi. The series is aimed at older preschoolers making the transition from nursery rhymes to family-friendly pop, and "Unwritten" hit the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 in its original run, making it a recognizable choice for parents watching alongside their kids.
It is a sensible move for a catalog track that has already demonstrated it can outlast its original moment. Whether this cover introduces the song to a new generation or simply reminds parents why they loved it, the placement feels earned.
