Mick Jagger says Rolling Stones will tour again, but not this year
Jagger says he can't wait to hit the road with the Stones, though no dates are imminent. A new album, Foreign Tongues, arrives July 10.
Jagger wants back on the road
Mick Jagger has made clear that a Rolling Stones tour is a matter of when, not if. Speaking on BBC Radio 2's Tracks of My Years alongside Ronnie Wood, Jagger said he would "love to go on tour" and "can't wait," while walking back any hope of a near-term announcement. "I don't think it's going to be this year. But hopefully it's going to be as soon as possible," he told the host, according to Billboard.
The band had previously scrapped plans for a U.K. and European stadium tour in 2026, with reports that Keith Richards was unable to commit to the run. Richards has since hinted at a possible return in 2027, and Jagger's remarks now point in the same direction.
Foreign Tongues arrives July 10
The interview doubles as a soft warm-up for the band's 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, due July 10 via Polydor/Universal Music. The record was recorded in less than a month at Metropolis Studios in West London with producer Andrew Watt, who also helmed 2024's Hackney Diamonds.
The guest list is hard to argue with: Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure, Steve Winwood, and the late Charlie Watts all appear on the album. Jagger described how the Robert Smith collaboration came about by accident at an industry event, spotting the Cure frontman "covered in lipstick" and roping him in on the spot. "That's how collaborations work sometimes," Jagger said.
McCartney, who also contributed to Hackney Diamonds, told NME the session felt "really exciting," describing the simple pleasure of showing up to a studio with his bass and being pointed to a spot.
What's already out
Foreign Tongues includes previously released tracks "Rough and Twisted" and "In the Stars," as well as a cover of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good." The tracklist was revealed earlier this month, with song titles appearing on streaming platforms listed in various foreign languages.
For context, Hackney Diamonds debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2024, the band's highest U.S. chart position since Voodoo Lounge reached No. 2 in 1994.
