Jennifer Lopez reacts to 'On the Floor' returning to Billboard charts after 15 years

A 2011 hit finds new life in 2025

Jennifer Lopez was not expecting the call. According to Billboard, her 2011 single "On the Floor" with Pitbull has reentered the Billboard charts for the first time in 15 years, debuting at No. 117 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 80 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart dated May 30. The trigger was a viral moment from the Prime Video series Off Campus, not anything Lopez had planned.

The scene that started it

In the show, a character named Allie (played by Mika Abdalla) dresses as J.Lo, and a character named Dean (Stephen Kalyn) dresses as Tom Cruise's Maverick from the Top Gun films. The two dance to "On the Floor" at a Halloween party in what quickly became a widely shared clip. Lopez leaned into the moment on social media, teaming up with Abdalla to re-create part of the scene.

"I was like, 'what?!' It was like out of the blue," Lopez told Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she appeared on Wednesday, May 27.

What it means for the song's legacy

"On the Floor" is not just a nostalgia footnote. It was one of Lopez's 10 top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 3 in 2011, and stands among Pitbull's 10 top 10s as well. Lopez has 32 career entries on the Hot 100; Pitbull has 45.

Speaking with Kimmel, Lopez reflected on how streaming and algorithmic discovery have changed the music business entirely. "Great music lives forever, as we know, but it lives in a different way now because they can find it easily," she said, noting that her own kids listen to everything from music she has never heard to the Beatles.

Office Romance coming June 5

The late night stop was also a promotional visit for her forthcoming Netflix film Office Romance, in which Lopez plays a CEO of an airline with a strict anti-fraternization policy. The film premieres June 5 on Netflix.
