Clive Davis hospitalized after respiratory issue
Clive Davis, one of the most influential figures in modern music history, was hospitalized in New York City on Friday (May 29) following an upper respiratory issue. According to Billboard, the legendary executive, 94, was admitted out of an abundance of caution and is expected to be released within 24 hours.
A representative for Davis confirmed to TMZ that he is being treated for an upper respiratory infection with antibiotics and steroids. The hospitalization comes just days after Davis attended the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner and Auction in New York City, per Page Six.
A career that shaped modern music
Few executives can claim a legacy as broad as Davis. Over more than six decades in the industry, he helped shape the careers of artists including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Bruce Springsteen, among many others. He became president of Columbia Records in 1967 at age 35, later founded Arista Records and J Records, led RCA Music Group, and most recently served as chief creative officer at Sony Music Entertainment.
A four-time Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Davis is also known for his annual pre-Grammy gala, held on the eve of the Grammy Awards each year since 1976. The event has become one of the most iconic gatherings in the music calendar.
Not his first health setback
This is not the first time Davis has faced a health challenge. In February 2021, he postponed his pre-Grammy gala after being diagnosed with Bell's palsy, a temporary condition that causes weakness or paralysis in facial muscles. He recovered fully and resumed his schedule within weeks. Those close to him appear similarly optimistic about the current situation.
