Billboard India launches in Mumbai
Billboard India, the brand's new expansion into Asia, is now live. According to Billboard, the publication was launched in partnership with Other Side Ventures Pvt. Ltd. and is headquartered in Mumbai. The platform will combine editorial content, charts, lists, and music awards with a focus on the full range of India's music communities, covering languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Ilaiyaraaja leads the debut cover
Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja is the first cover star of the new title. The screen music icon has composed for 1,500 film soundtracks and this year marks his 50th year in music. Priyanka Khimani, media advisor and driving force behind Other Side Ventures, called it a privilege to feature him at such a milestone moment.
A market with serious momentum
The timing is deliberate. India is currently the world's 15th largest recorded music market, per the IFPI, and domestic creator collections reached roughly US$75 million in 2024, a 42% year-on-year increase according to CISAC data. Some 450 million Indians are under the age of 30, a demographic that is increasingly engaged with both film soundtracks and a growing wave of independent artists.
The Indian music scene is also producing artists with genuine global reach, and Billboard India positions itself as the "definitive voice" across that entire spectrum.
The team behind it
The publication's leadership includes Preeti Nayyar as chief operating officer and Mohini Chaudhuri as content strategy director, alongside Amruta Ramesh as creative director and Vidya Sivalenka as charts lead. Billboard CEO Mike Van described the launch as "an exciting step" in the company's broader mission to document global music ecosystems.
Billboard India is live now at billboardindia.com and across social platforms.
