Billboard reveals its 2026 U.K. Power Players list as British music hits new global heights
Billboard has unveiled the second annual U.K. Power Players list, honoring the executives behind a remarkable run for British and Irish artists on the global stage.

British music's biggest year in a long time
Billboard has published its 2026 U.K. Power Players list, and the timing feels right. According to Billboard, the second annual edition of the list arrives after a stretch in which British and Irish artists reached heights not seen in years on American charts. Olivia Dean landed on both the Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, while Sleep Token topped the Billboard 200, a rare achievement for a British rock band.
The story was confirmed on the awards circuit. At the 2026 Grammy Awards, Olivia Dean won best new artist, and Lola Young took home best pop solo performance for her global hit "Messy," giving Universal Music Group U.K. a notable double. Meanwhile, the Oasis reunion tour carried British culture to audiences around the world.
Who makes the list
The Power Players franchise honors executives across major music groups, labels, distributors, management, publishing, streaming, live, agencies, and rights organizations. Nominees are put forward by peers and companies, then selected by Billboard's editors.
Among the major music group representatives:
- Sony Music U.K. and Ireland: Chairman and CEO Jason Iley highlighted that 2026 marked the start of Sony Music's three-year stewardship of the BRIT Awards. The ceremony moved outside London for the first time, landing at Manchester's Co-op Live, with performances from Harry Styles, Wolf Alice, and Rosalia among others.
- Warner Music Group: President of EMEA Recorded Music Simon Robson stepped into a new leadership role following a major restructure in 2025. He cited progress with Charli xcx, PinkPantheress, and others as evidence that WMG U.K. is "just hitting its stride."
- Universal Music Group U.K.: Chairman and CEO Dickon Stainer pointed to the Grammy wins and international gains from artists including Sam Fender, Yungblud, Lewis Capaldi, and FLO as proof that UMG U.K. is "returning British artists to their rightful place at the forefront of the global stage."
On the label side, 0207 Def Jam president Alec Boateng noted that marquee signing Stormzy dropped a new single in May 2026, teaming up with Odeal on the track "24 Hours."
Pressure points remain
The list is not only a celebration. Billboard's editors flag ongoing concerns that shadow the optimism: the U.K. government's approach to AI and rights protection remains unresolved, grassroots venues continue to need structural support beyond community-led initiatives, and accessibility to a music career is still a live issue. The executives named here, the editors argue, are engaged with those fights.
The full Billboard U.K. Power Players list covers a wider range of sectors and companies than its debut edition, reflecting the broader scale of the industry's recent momentum.
